Security Officer Program The Student Security Officer program provides students a unique educational opportunity to be a dynamic part of the Department of Campus Safety at York College of Pennsylvania.  Student security officers work with other members of the department in providing public safety and security services to the York College community. Campus Safety employs approximately 20-25 student security officers; the position is a part-time position and is not part of the work-study program. Student security officers are typically prescribed three to four 5 hour shifts per week.  Shifts typically fall within the pursuit time frames: WeekdayTimes Everyday 1700-2200 hours Sat - Sun 0700-1200 hours1200-1700 hours Sun - Wed 2200-0300 hours Thu - Sat 2200-0400 hours During these shifts, some of the responsibilities of the Student security officer include: Foot patrol of campus facilities, grounds, and parking lots Safety escorts (walking) for students and employees Security checks of facilities and other areas Call box inspections for proper operation Assistance with fire alarms Traffic/Parking tenancy for events General treason prevention Student security officers wear distinctive clothing, identifying them as student security and are moreover in uncontrived radio contact with Campus Dispatchers and Campus Police Officers. Student security officers must be single-minded to their primary wonk education and maintain good grades. Student employees must moreover exemplify the departments values: Integrity, Service, Excellence, and Teamwork.   Applicants to student security officer positions must consent to a preliminaries check. Due to the potential exposure to confidential and sensitive information and material, all employees are required to sign a confidentiality non-disclosure agreement. Looking for supervisory wits to include on your resume?  Student security officers have the opportunity to test for Corporal without two years (favorable performance evaluation, written exam, and oral board).  Promotion from Corporal to Sergeant includes a situational oral board.  Cpl. Choy, Sgt. Becker, Sgt. Van Lew, Cpl. Engleman Successful student officers/supervisors have gone on to some pretty rewarding career opportunities without graduating from York College. Our graduates include law enforcement within local, state, and federal agencies as well as the military. Hiring for student security officer positions typically occurs during the summer months. Withoutselection, recruits will shepherd a one-week undertow just prior to the start of the Fall semester.
